Journal Metrics:
Scholars and researchers rely on journal metrics to measure, compare, and rank research and scholarly publications. These metrics, also known as journal rankings, journal importance, or a journal’s impact, enable them to make informed decisions and comparisons regarding literary periodicals1.

The pioneering Journal Impact Factor, created in the 1950s and available through Thompson Reuters’ Journal Citation Reports, remains the original citation impact metric. However, several other free journal metrics have since emerged, including SCILit, CiteScore, Google Scholar Metrics, SCImago Journal & Country Rank (SJR), and Source Normalized Impact per Paper (SNIP).
